Become a Certified Style Coach
Uniquely Holistic Personal Stylist
& Image Consultant Training

** Calling all aspiring Personal Stylists, Image Consultants, Fashion Stylists and Personal Shoppers! **

Over the next few weeks, we’re going be talking about how to develop your ‘sense of style’. In this video, Lesson One deals with ‘defining your personal style as it is right now’. So, if you’re up for a challenge, then grab yourself a quiet half hour, and come join us for these simple Style Steps!

The first thing we’re going to do is take a close look at your current wardrobe. Place some of your personal favourite clothes on your bed. You might find that each of them has something in common or a general theme… Whether it’s that they are elegant, sophisticated, clean-cut styles, or perhaps they’re feminine and figure hugging, or maybe even androgynous… Whatever the theme might be, it’s obviously one that speaks to you on some level.

Becoming aware of what you naturally gravitate towards, helps you to define your own sense of style.

If you have time, try on each item, and ask yourself the following questions…

How does the piece feel when I wear it?

Where does it fit most closely to my body?

Does it hug certain curves or drape over any aspects of my figure?

Does it flare at the hips, or under the bust, or do the lines hang quite straight?

Does the fabric lie flat, or are there any features like flounces, ruffles, ribbons, sequins, pleats, ruching, appliqué or other embellishments?

Is it one of our neutral colours like grey, navy, camel, black or white?

Is it a warm and muted autumn tone like bordeaux wine, shaded spruce, chocolate or mocha brown?

Is it a clear and bold winter colour like sapphire, vibrant purple, or cherry red?

Is it perhaps a distinctive spring colour like coral, apple green, or cornflower blue?

Or maybe it’s from the dusky summer palette, with colours like mulberry, aubergine or smoked violet!

Is it a solid colour, or does it have blocks of colour like we saw in many designs from the 60s?

Does it feature a pattern of any type?

Are there vertical stripes, horizontal, diagonal, slim lines or wide?

Is there a symmetrical or asymmetrical pattern?

Maybe it has a floral motif or a dramatic animal print?

The next thing we’re going to consider, is what your clothes say about you, and defining how you want other people to perceive you. Having a sense of style, also means knowing what’s appropriate for different occasions. Think about the different roles in your life & jot down the different situations you typically repeat each week. Think about how you want to appear, and most importantly, how you want to feel for each of these situations.

And finally for this week, it’s important to also ask yourself what you would like to change about your current wardrobe so you can set some style-related goals…

Would you love to be more adventurous with your choice of colours?

Would you like to have more variety in the types of clothes you choose?

Would you like your clothes to fit you better, or be more flattering?

Would you like to experiment with layering and accessorising?

Would you like to have a greater choice of shoes and boots?

Would you like to start investing in better quality items?

Would you like to declutter your wardrobe and weed out any items you no longer wear? It’s exciting when you start to visualise what you’d like to achieve!

In our next video, we’ll look at how to find inspiration that will help you to develop your sense of style and become more confident in expressing yourself through your clothing choices.

What jobs can I get as a Personal Stylist?

So you’re thinking about enrolling for one of the Style Coaching Institute® diploma courses in professional Style Coaching™, and you’re wondering, “What jobs can I get as a stylist?” There are several prefixes that accompany “stylist”, enough to make your head spin! Personal Styling is an industry that lends itself easily to exploration and specialization. We have compiled a quick and easy guide to how you can use your Diploma in Style Coaching™.

Style Coach™

This is the coveted title that most of our graduates choose to use after completing our exclusive ‘Style Coaching™ Diploma Course’. As Style Coaches™, they are able to offer everything Personal Stylists, Image Consultants, Personal Shoppers and Wardrobe Stylists offer, but they can also coach their client to achieve greater levels of inner confidence too. Alongside their expertise in personal styling, a Certified Style Coach™ is an expert advocate of positive body-image and self-esteem. Style Coaches™ use methods and tools from life coaching and personal branding to make personal styling so much more transformative (inside and out). They assist their clients in making styling suggestions that will also boost their clients’ overall confidence. It is important that each client feels comfortable and that their specific needs are addressed. They offer a holistic styling process that embraces the whole person, and helps them to “love the skin they’re in”. Style Coaches™ can work one-to-one with clients and be their own bosses, they can host group workshops and style events, they can work with companies and top executives, they can apply for positions as resident ‘Style Coaches™’ for local and national magazines and radio stations, and so much more!

Personal Stylist or Image Consultant

This may be the first thing that comes to mind when you think of jobs in styling. A graduate of the Style Coaching™ diploma course can also choose to work as a Personal Stylist or Image Consultant. This means that they work one-on-one with their clients, either independently or as a fashion retailer employee. They help each client to understand what clothing suits their particular lifestyle, body shape and colour characteristics. When you choose to become a Personal Stylist your services can range anywhere from color consultations to make-up application and recommendations. If you enjoy working closely with individuals and focusing only on a person’s wardrobe and appearance, then becoming an image consultant or personal stylist should be right up your alley.

Fashion Stylist

Many Certified Style Coaches™ go on to practice as “Fashion Stylists”. Behind every immaculately styled editorial feature there is a Fashion Stylist working tirelessly to put it all together. As a Fashion Stylist you will select clothing for published editorial features, advertising campaigns in both print and television, music videos, concert performances, in addition to styling for public appearances made by celebrities and public figures. Be prepared to work long hours on set. You will be expected to think on your feet and there will be times when you’ll have very little time to pull things together. However, your job as a Fashion Stylist will never be boring. You will have chance to experiment and even break a few rules while you work to create a unique aesthetic. If you are highly creative, this ever-changing landscape will be perfect for you.

Wardrobe Stylist

Think about your favourite television show. Now think of how stylish your favourite TV personality always seems to be. The job of the Wardrobe Stylist is to create looks for the cast members of television shows and movies, or celebrities that need someone to manage their everyday wardrobe choices. The wardrobe stylist is tasked with the job of telling a story of who the person is through the clothing they wear. This is similar to being a Personal Stylist or Style Coach™ in the sense that both need a deep understanding of the personality they are working with and what needs to be communicated. However, Wardrobe Stylists are purely focused on creating capsules of outfits. They can have a lot of fun as they are often expected to put together 100s of looks for several different characters and they get to meet many celebrities through their work.

Personal Shopper

Another popular path you can choose as a certified Style Coach™ is an extension of personal styling, called personal shopping. In this fast-paced world many men and women don’t have much time on their hands. And though they see the value in dressing the part, they require some assistance. This is where your job as a Personal Shopper comes in. Once you have defined the needs of your client the next step will be to purchase items that you believe are suitable for their new wardrobe. You can work in two capacities, the first being shopping for specific occasions, and the second is to be your client’s personal shopper on an on-going basis, building your client’s wardrobe over time. Some clients like to shop with you and just gain your advice, whereas others prefer you to completely take the reins and just present them with the outfits you have chosen. Becoming a Personal Shopper offers you a lot of flexibility; you can work with one-to-one clients in your own independent practice, or you can apply for job positions as a permanent Personal Shopper with high-street retailers.

Wardrobe Management

Managing your client’s wardrobe can be a challenging but rewarding experience. A certified Style Coach™ can specialise in wardrobe management, or they can include it as part of an overall service that includes personal styling, personal shopping and much more. As a dedicated Wardrobe Manager you will simply help your client to edit his/her wardrobe by getting rid of pieces that no longer fit, are outdated or just worn out. You will also help your client with understanding how to wear items they already own in fresh new ways. As a Wardrobe Manager you can also go as far as cataloguing all the items your client has in their wardrobes, analysing their lifestyle and making shopping plans for key pieces they need to gradually purchase.

Work in Retail

Not all stylists work with their own clients or on big budget movie sets. There is also a need for qualified stylists in retail outlets on the shop floor. This particular position will require you to have a good knowledge of what the store has in stock so that you will be able to efficiently assist customers. Shopping is a very stressful experience for many men and women and your expertise will play an integral role in making it a rewarding experience. Whether it is helping a middle-aged woman find a dress that is both age appropriate and stylish, or helping a gentleman choose the right tie to with his favourite shirt, or the right pocket square to go with his suit.

So, if you were a certified Style Coach™, which one of these specialisations would most appeal to you? How would you use your diploma qualification from the Style Coaching Institute®?

This week’s actionable is to think about the jobs listed above and decide which one is right for you. Leave your comments on our Facebook page or email us on to discuss your goals! You can even schedule a complimentary consultation call to help you decide whether Style Coaching™ is the right course for you!

It’s incredible to think that new figures published by the British Fashion Council on the first day of London Fashion Week value the fashion industry’s contribution to the UK economy at £26 billion.

The Mayor of London Boris Johnson said: ‘These latest figures are clear evidence of the hugely important contribution that fashion makes to our economy. It is a dynamic industry whose value is increasing thanks to the dazzling creativity of our designers, the brilliant colleges that bring up the next waves of talent and a fast moving retail sector, which covers the spectrum of great style from bespoke to high street. My office will continue to work with the British Fashion Council to ensure that London remains on the front row in the international fashion stakes.’

The great news is that continued growth is expected around the world for the fashion industry, and many economies are seeing a huge surge in the demand for certified personal stylists and authentic ‘Style Coaches™’. Why you shouldn't become a Personal Stylist or Image Consultant

Here at the Style Coaching Institute®, we believe in embracing and nurturing a person’s appearance, so they can learn to love the skin they’re in.

The marketplace is filled with image consultancy courses, fashion styling courses, personal shopper courses and color consultancy courses that teach you how to help people to ‘look good’. While the positive impact of enhancing your appearance cannot be underestimated, and it is at the core of our business, we also believe there is more to life than just sending out a good impression!

Looking good shouldn’t be about impressing other people, or putting on a false image that is shallow and has no real substance or depth. It should be about your own relationship with yourself - your own feelings of self-worth, your own levels of confidence and self-esteem, your own feelings of appreciation and gratitude for the ways in which you are uniquely beautiful.

When you train to become a Style Coach™ you learn how to help people embrace and nurture their physical appearance, and enhance their positive features. However, we place an equal emphasis on how 'looking good’ is about 'feeling good’. Style Coaching™ isn’t just about learning how to do personal styling makeovers… It’s about learning how to offer inner and outer transformations to the people you work with!

Our Style Coaching™ courses offer you a unique and powerful combination of personal styling, image consultancy, colour consultancy, personal branding and life coaching. As the creators of this field, the Style Coaching Institute® are the unrivalled leaders and innovators of the image training industry. We are revolutionising how image consultancy has been done for years, bringing it in line with the modern day beliefs about inner beauty that more and more people are adopting around the world.

We provide VIP training courses in London, full-time and part-time training courses in Singapore, and tutored classes in New Zealand, plus our home study diploma course is studied in more countries around the world than any other image training course.

If you’re an aspiring image consultant, personal stylist, personal shopper, fashion stylist or life coach, why not invest in a career that has unlimited potential and offers you an instant competitive advantage?

We offer our online Style Coaching™ course worldwide. Our groundbreaking Style Coach™ training courses have reached Andorra, Angola, Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Canada, China, Columbia, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Egypt, France, Georgia, Germany, Ghana, Great Britain & Northern Ireland, Guernsey, Hong Kong, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Isle of Man, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jersey, Kuwait, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Malta, Mexico, New Zealand, Nigeria, the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovakia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, the Netherlands, Trinidad & Tobago, Turkey, United Arab Emirates, the USA, Vietnam and Qatar.

So, why should you NOT become a Personal Stylist, Personal Shopper, Fashion Stylist or Image Consultant?

Training and starting your own business in these fields is great, but Style Coaching™ is undoubtedly the most influential image specialisation that has emerged in decades. Image Consultancy gained popularity in the 1980’s, but many people would consider that it hasn’t changed much since. Style Coaching™ is the evolution of image consultant training; it offers people a whole new approach that is refreshingly real, deep and meaningful.

Don’t be left behind by learning an outdated approach… train to become a Style Coach™ and stay ahead of the game and ahead of the competition!
